The Society
The Grainger County Historic Society is a group of interested folks with diverse talents who share a passion for that which has come before. We explore and celebrate the great history of Grainger County; uncover and present that previousouly unknown; and collect, examine, restore, and replicate artifacts and structures of the oldest and most distinguished records relating exclusively to Tennessee.
Grainger County is located at the Cross Roads of History. Through this county settlers passed through to the south and west as they moved westward to form our nation. Our county's history begins with Pangea, the Supercontinent that formed the beauty of Appalachia, and is rich with tradiitions and stories of the Cherokee Nation, the Long Hunters, and the Civil War.
